This presentation will be hosted by Certified Occupational Hygienists, a mining engineer and an Occupational Physician to provide an overview of each of our roles in managing worker health, and how we can work together for early detection and improved outcomes.

We will provide a brief overview of underground mining techniques, discuss the most prevalent risks in this industry, how these are measured and managed by Occupational Hygienists and provide an overview of health surveillance. All of these points will merge into how Occupational Hygienists and Occupational Physicians can work together with the common goal of improving worker health.

We will outline the critical data points that Physicians and Hygienists can share from their surveillance and monitoring work that each can use for designing interventions to benefit front line workers.

Learning Objectives:

By participating in this session, delegates can expect to:

  1. Understand underground mining techniques and the inherent health hazards associated with this work.
  2. Understand occupational hygiene methods, statistics and reporting and an overview of best practice health surveillance.
  3. Understand how Occupational Hygienists and Occupational Physicians can work together.
